✨ Behind the Scenes at Bergin & Bath: A Walk in the Woods

When people ask us where our ideas come from, the answer is simple: the forest.
We’re lucky to have the ancient woodland of Ashridge Forest right on our doorstep. It’s a place of twisting oaks, hidden glades, and soft moss underfoot — the kind of place where time seems to slow down. For us, it has become both a retreat and a wellspring of inspiration.

Wandering at Dusk
Rachel loves nothing more than hiking through the woods at dusk. At that quiet hour, the air is filled with the sound of birds settling down, and if you pause, you’ll often hear the owls calling from the treetops. Sometimes, if you’re patient, you can even catch the rustle of badgers scuffling through the undergrowth, snuffling for their supper.
Katie, on the other hand, has a forager’s eye. She’s often spotted crouched by the path, pocketing little treasures — a twist of bark, an acorn, or a cluster of bright berries. These tiny details often spark ideas that later find their way into our sketches and designs.
From Forest to Felt
So many of our kits begin life as a woodland encounter.
The Hedgehog Kit grew out of evenings spent watching these shy little creatures shuffle across the paths.
The Toadstool Kit is inspired by the red-topped fungi that glow like fairy lanterns in the autumn moss.
And the Owl Kit is our tribute to those watchful, wise birds whose calls are the soundtrack to our nighttime walks.
What begins as a moment in the forest turns into a sketch in our notebooks, then a woolly experiment at the craft table, and finally into the kits we send out into the world.
Why the Forest Matters

Ashridge isn’t just a backdrop. It’s part of our creative rhythm. Spending time amongst the trees keeps us grounded, sparks new ideas, and reminds us to notice the small things — the curve of a leaf, the flick of a hedgehog’s ear, the glow of a mushroom cap.
That’s the heart of Bergin & Bath: turning those small, magical details into craft experiences that anyone can enjoy. When you sit down with one of our kits, you’re not just making something with wool. You’re slowing down, connecting with nature, and bringing a little piece of the woodland world to life with your own hands. 🌲🦉🍄🦔
